Biography of Lera Mandziuk

Lera Mandziuk (real name Valeria Ivanovna Mandziuk) was born on February 12, 1997 in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary. Her mother was working abroad at the time. After Lera’s birth, the family returned to Tyachiv, Zakarpattia region, Ukraine. Lera grew up in a large family with seven brothers and sisters. Her childhood was difficult: her father left the family when she was very young, leaving her mother to raise and support all the children on her own.

Early years and education

Since early childhood, Lera has been striving for a better life. Realizing the importance of education, she decided to enter a higher education institution. To do this, her mother sold a cow to provide her daughter with the opportunity to study. In 2014, Lera entered Mukachevo State University, Faculty of Tourism, because she dreamed of becoming a tour guide. She loved telling stories and traveling.

Starting her career in stand-up

Alongside her studies, Lera started performing stand-up. One of her motivations was her rejection for the Miss University contest in 2015, which prompted her to make fun of the situation in front of the audience. Her first performances took place at the Open Mic competition in Uzhhorod, where she won.

In 2016, Lera decided to try her hand at the “Make a Comedian Laugh” show. She borrowed money from her brother and traveled to Kyiv. Her performance was judged by Volodymyr Zelenskyi, who was then a member of the jury, and Lera won 5 thousand hryvnias. A year later, she took part in the show again and this time won 50 thousand hryvnias.

Career development

Her success on “Make a Comedian Laugh” opened up new opportunities for Lera. She was invited to host weddings and other events. This was an important milestone in her career. In 2018, she was invited to perform at the Women’s Quarter, where she quickly gained popularity. She also actively participated in the Stand Up Battle comedy competition.

Charitable activities

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine in 2022, Lera Mandziuk has been actively holding charity concerts, performing for the Ukrainian military and supporting those affected by the war. Her performances not only cheer people up, but also help raise funds for charity.

The scandal with statements about children

In 2023, Lera found herself at the center of a scandal because of a bad joke about children with special educational needs during one of her speeches. During her speech, she joked about the work of a teacher’s assistant, which drew criticism from netizens. Lera apologized and explained that she did not intend to offend anyone, but wanted to draw attention to the importance of this profession. She expressed regret for the misunderstanding and noted that her lack of knowledge in this area could serve as a lesson for others.
