Alexander Syrsky was born and raised in the village of Novinki, Vladimir Region, Russia. He has a wife, Tamara Kharchenko, and two sons: Anton and Alexander.
Syrsky received a high military education. He graduated from the Moscow Higher Military Command School in 1986. He later graduated from the Armed Forces Academy in 1996 and the National Defense University in 2005.
Oleksandr began his career in the National Guard after Ukraine’s independence. He commanded the 72nd Mechanized Brigade. Before the war in Donbas, he was the First Deputy Chief of the Main Command Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and participated in the processes of cooperation with NATO. With the outbreak of hostilities in eastern Ukraine, he became the Chief of Staff of the ATO. He was one of the main commanders of the ATO forces during the battle for Debaltseve in the winter of 2015.
Oleksandr Syrsky is a recognized leader and an excellent military officer. He was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine in 2022. He has also received numerous awards and decorations, including the Cross of Military Merit, the Badge of Military Valor (Ministry of Defense of Ukraine), the Badge of Honor (Ministry of Defense of Ukraine), and others.
