Zhanna Monastyrska was born into a family of lawyers. Her father, Viktor Monastyrskyi, was a judge of the Khmelnytskyi City Court, and her mother, Olena Monastyrska, worked as a lawyer. Education

Zhanna Monastyrska graduated with a degree in law from Khmelnytsky University of Management and Law in 2002. During her studies, she took an active part in student government, scientific conferences, competitions and contests. She also did internships at various legal organizations and institutions. After graduation, she continued her education in the postgraduate program of the same university, where she defended her PhD thesis on “Legal regulation of public authorities in Ukraine” in 2005. She also held the academic title of Associate Professor of Constitutional and Administrative Law. Career

Zhanna Monastyrska began her professional career in 2000 as a legal advisor at PJSC Khmelnytsky Forging and Pressing Equipment Plant Prigma-Press. In 2003, she became an assistant counselor to the Member of Parliament of Ukraine Vitaliy Oluyko, with whom she worked until 2006. In 2007, she joined Hillmont Partners, where she was an associate and partner. She provided legal services to investors and businesses, and represented the interests of Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his company Kvartal 95. In 2009, she worked for Global Ties KC, an American organization that promotes international cultural exchanges. In 2014, she became an expert at the Institute for the Future, which was created by Anton Gerashchenko, one of Arsen Avakov’s closest associates. She was also his assistant consultant. She participated in the development and implementation of law enforcement and judicial reforms, as well as in the formation of the State Bureau of Investigation. In 2015-2017, she worked as a lawyer at Legal Consulting LLC. In 2019, she was elected as a Member of Parliament of Ukraine from the Servant of the People party. She headed the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement. She initiated and supported a number of bills aimed at improving the work of law enforcement agencies, ensuring the rights and freedoms of citizens, and fighting corruption and crime.

She also criticized Arsen Avakov for a number of scandalous events related to the activities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and demanded his resignation. She was one of the initiators of the creation of a temporary investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada to investigate the case of the murder of a five-year-old boy, Kyrylo Tlyavov, in Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi, which occurred due to police negligence. She also actively opposed political influence on justice and defended the independence of anti-corruption bodies. She supported sanctions against judges who made questionable decisions and against oligarchs who financed anti-state activities. She also fought for the ratification of the Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. She believed that this was an important step to protect the rights of women and children in Ukraine.
