Yuriy Ihnat

Childhood and family

Yuriy Ihnat grew up in the family of Robert Ihnat, a journalist for the publications Moloda Halychyna and Za Svobodnuyu Ukrainu. His grandfather, also Yuriy Ihnat, fought in the ranks of the national liberation movement and is buried at Lychakiv Cemetery. Since childhood, Yuriy loved to read, write, draw, and be interested in history. He dreamed of becoming a pilot or an astronaut. He graduated with honors from secondary school #51 in Lviv.

He is married to Anastasia Ignat. They have a daughter, Zoryana, who is in junior high school. Yuriy loves his family and tries to spend as much time with them as possible. He also keeps in touch with his parents, brother and sister.

Education

Yuriy Ihnat graduated from the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy, where he studied military journalism. He also holds a master’s degree in political science and a PhD in public administration. He has taken courses and internships on national security, information policy, strategic communication, international relations, and other topics. He speaks English, Polish and Russian.

Career

Yuriy Ihnat started his military service in 1999 at a new military publication, the newspaper Kryla Ukrayiny. He worked as a reporter, editor, deputy editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief. He wrote about the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, its history, present and prospects. He also covered events in hot spots involving Ukrainian pilots. For six months, he was on a business trip to Africa, filming a documentary about the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ peacekeeping mission.

In 2018, Yuriy Ihnat became the head of the press service of the Air Force Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He became the spokesperson and face of the Air Force, which plays a key role in protecting Ukrainian skies from Russian aggression. He informs the public about the situation in the airspace, the successes and problems of the Air Force, its needs and prospects. He is also engaged in strategic communication, cooperation with international partners, development of patriotism and popularization of military service. He has created or collaborated on many materials – articles, interviews, analytical reports, presentations, videos and other products that reveal the activities of the Air Force of Ukraine.

Yuriy Ihnat is not only a journalist, but also a warrior. He took part in the Russian-Ukrainian war, where he performed intelligence, communications, information support, and other tasks. He was wounded but continued to serve.

He was awarded the Order of Danylo Halytskyi for personal courage and selfless actions in the defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. He was also awarded the medals “For Military Service to Ukraine”, “For Participation in Peacekeeping Operations”, “For Merit to the Armed Forces of Ukraine” and others.
