Dmytro Komarov

Childhood and family

Dmitry Komarov was the first child in the family of Konstantin and Nina Komarov. He has a younger brother and sister, twins Nikolai and Angelina, who were named after their grandparents. He has been fascinated by journalism and photography since childhood, publishing his first articles at the age of 12 and getting his first job at the Telenedelya weekly at the age of 16. He studied at the National Transport University with a degree in engineering and at the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts with a degree in public relations. He also took courses and internships in photography, journalism, marketing and PR.

 

 

Wife : Oleksandra Oleksandrivna Kucherenko, born on November 26, 1997 in Dnipro. She is the winner of the Miss Ukraine 2016 title, a Ukrainian journalist, host of the Star Sport program on ICTV, a professional dancer, model, and curator of the Mentoring charity project.

Career

Dmytro Komarov began his professional career as a photojournalist, shooting Ukrainian and international stars who came to Kyiv on tour and selling exclusive photos to various publications. He also collaborated with dozens of print publications, such as KP in Ukraine, Izvestia in Ukraine, Playboy, EGO, and others. He organized photo exhibitions of his travels in Africa, Nepal, India and other countries. He was also fond of traveling along little-known routes and unpopular destinations, getting to know the local population and the distinctive culture of different nations. During one of these trips to Thailand, he came up with the idea to create his own travel program, which was later named “The World Inside Out”.

The World Inside Out program has become Dmytro Komarov’s main project, which has brought him national fame and recognition. He is the author and host of this program, which has been broadcast on 1+1 TV channel since 2010. As part of this project, he visited more than 100 countries, showing viewers incredible landscapes, exotic traditions, exciting adventures, and dangerous challenges. He has also filmed special programs about important events in Ukraine and the world, such as the Revolution of Dignity, the annexation of Crimea, the war in Donbas, the COVID-19 pandemic, and others3. He became the first Ukrainian journalist to visit the North Pole, Antarctica, Easter Island, North Korea, the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, and many other places rarely visited by ordinary tourists.

After February 24, 2022, he was actively involved in documenting events related to the war in Ukraine.

He was in the hottest spots of the conflict to show the audience the war and the de-occupied territories from a completely different perspective.Komarov was the first journalist to see and film the horrors of the newly liberated Bucha, Irpin and Gostomel with his own eyes.

On February 24, 2023, his author’s documentary project was released on 1+1 TV channel.

Achievements

Dmytro Komarov is one of the most successful and influential representatives of the television industry in Ukraine. He has received many awards and prizes for his work, including: “Teletriumph”, “Country’s Choice”, “Television Star”, “People’s Award”, “TV Presenter of the Year” and others. He was also recognized as “Man of the Year 2017” by Viva! magazine4 and “Journalist of the Year 2020” by Ukrainska Pravda5. He became an Honored Journalist of Ukraine in 2020.

He also set several records that were listed in the Ukrainian Book of Records, for example:

• the largest number of countries he visited in one year – 52,
• the largest number of countries in which it has filmed its program – 101,
• the largest number of viewers who watched his program live – 11 million, and others.

He is also the author of several best-selling books, such as:

• “The World Inside Out: Traveling with Meaning” and others.

Dmitry Komarov is not only a talented journalist and traveler, but also a family man. He is married to Elena Komarova, who is his producer and life partner. They met in 2008 on the set of one of his projects and have been together ever since. They have two children – son Maxim and daughter Maria, born in 2012 and 2014, respectively. Dmytro Komarov loves his family and tries to spend as much time with them as possible when he is not traveling. He also takes care of his health and fitness by exercising, meditating and eating right.
