Ukrainian blogger Oleksandr Voloshyn got into a scandal after Russians shelled Kyiv on July 8, 2024. On Monday, the Russian Armed Forces hit the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital in the capital. Other medical centers and civilian infrastructure were also damaged. In addition to Kyiv, the Russians shelled Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, and Pokrovsk. Amidst the horrific news, several Ukrainian bloggers announced the possibility of negotiations with the occupiers.

In particular, Oleksandr Voloshyn noted that Ukraine “is not leaving the war” and that it was necessary to “play on their terms.” Immediately afterwards, the blogger began collecting money to help the victims of the shelling of Okhmatdyt. After some time, Voloshin closed his Instagram account, which was followed by 1 million people, claiming that he had been threatened. Having raised more than UAH 5 million, the blogger announced that he would not send money to Okhmatdyt, but would help specific families with finances. After an even bigger scandal erupted online, Voloshin contacted his subscribers and explained where the money was spent.
