Artem Dovbyk: Biography

Early years and education

Artem Dovbyk was born on June 21, 1997 in Cherkasy. He graduated from secondary school No. 2 in his hometown and received his higher education at the Educational and Research Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Health of the B. Khmelnytsky Cherkasy National University.

The beginning of his career

Artem started playing football in Cherkasy, playing for his school team in the Leather Ball tournament. His talent was noticed by the coaches of the local sports school, where his first mentors were Oleksiy Blokha and Serhiy Sergienko. Artem also distinguished himself in the children’s and youth football league of Ukraine.

Professional debut at Cherkasy Dnipro

In July 2014, Artem signed a contract with Cherkasy Dnipro, which played in the Second League of Ukraine. He made his professional football debut on July 26, 2014 in a match against Skala (Stryi). In the second match against Crystal (Kherson), he scored his first goal, becoming the youngest goal scorer in the history of professional clubs in Cherkasy. In the match against Arsenal-Kyivshchyna, Artem scored a hat-trick, helping the team to a 5-0 victory.

Transfer to Dnipro

In the summer of 2015, Artem moved to Dnipro, where he played most of the time for the youth team, but also took part in the first team matches. He played only three matches on loan at the Moldovan club Zorya (Balti), after which he returned to Dnipro.

Appearances for Midtjylland

On January 31, 2018, Artem signed a contract with the Danish club Midtjylland. In half a season, he played 10 matches and scored 1 goal, becoming the Danish champion. After losing his place in the first team, he was loaned to Sønderjylsk, with whom he won the Danish Cup.

Return to Dnipro-1

In the summer of 2020, Artem signed a contract with Dnipro-1, where he continued his successful career, scoring important goals and becoming one of the team’s top scorers.

Success at Girona

On August 6, 2023, Artem moved to Spanish side Girona for a record-breaking €7 million. In the first half of the 2023/24 season, he became the team’s top scorer, scoring 17 goals and providing 5 assists. He finished the season with the Picciusi Trophy as the top scorer in La Liga.

International career

Artem made his debut for the Ukrainian national team in 2021. At Euro 2020, he scored the decisive goal in the match against Sweden, which helped Ukraine reach the quarterfinals. In the qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup against Bosnia and Herzegovina, he scored an important goal, helping the national team to take second place in the group.

Personal life.

Artem is married to Yulia Chernenko. In August 2022, they had a daughter, Kira.
